CARS Project

Regional community-based project to improving Young Black Men’s sexual health

The St. Louis CARS project will bridge multiple jurisdictions, convening authorities and governing councils to focus specifically on policies and practices that influence the sexual health of young Black men aged 18-29 disproportionately burdened by STD/HIV.

The CARS project consists of four critical pillars:

Systems-Level Impact

St. Louis CARS aims to recommend and implement new changes at a regional level to create positive sexual health outcomes for Black men aged 18 to 29

Healing Centered Engagement

St. Louis CARS is grounded in focusing on the unique needs of the focus population to ensure optimum lasting community change

Regional Collaboration

St. Louis CARS develops partnerships with regional constituents and organizations that focus on improving the lived experiences of Black men

Community Advisory Board

St. Louis CARS is driven by a dynamic community advisory board that leads through intellect, resilience, and personal narratives

Community Advisory Board Priorities

Education - Black Men Must be Educated around their Sexual Health. Consistently, as a community, there seems to be miseducation and a lack of education around healthcare for Black men.

Mental health - Black Men Must be Healed and Whole. In order to have strong and positive sexual encounters, we want to be sure that we are fully understanding of our Whole selves. We believe in healing mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Holistic Health - Black Men Must be Healthy. Traditionally, men struggle to adhere to healthcare practices. We want to invest Black men in their sexual health as well as their overall well being. We want to ensure that we are living well throughout our lifetime.

Reach out to the CARS Team for more information or to partner with us in this work.
